Covid-19 Update in The Gambia

31st August 2020  |  12th Muharram 1442

SPOT PROJECT which mainly operates in The Gambia, West Africa has been on lockdown since March 2020. Due to the recent upsurge in the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the President, Adama Barrow has announced an extension to the lockdown as of 27th August. The state of public emergency and curfew throughout the country will continue for an additional period of 21 days.

  • All educational institutions (Universities, Colleges, Schools, Madrassas, Daras, Majalis and Gamos) remain closed.
  • A public place of worship (Mosque, Church, etc) may be opened fifteen minutes before    scheduled congregational prayers and shall be closed immediately after the end of prayers.
  • All forms of public gatherings remain prohibited.
  • Nightly curfew from 22:00 to 05:00 daily remains in place throughout Gambia.
  • All land, sea and air borders are to remain closed.
  • All non-food outlets in markets throughout Gambia shall open for business between the hours of 15.00 and 19.00.

Unfortunately, the majority of our projects have been heavily affected, particularly SPOT Academy, our Water Projects, our Zakat Distribution Programme and our building and construction plans. The lockdown extension announced by the government has and will continue to have an adverse effect on the work we carry out.

Please note: All volunteer trips have been put on hold for now due to the current climate. We take the safety of our volunteers very seriously and will provide updates as we receive further information.

We will keep you updated with any further announcements Insha’Allah.
